While in essence a legal action has been raised on behalf of EH / Sony it is a little off to be calling this "suing"!
A preemptive lawsuit has been brought to see if EH/Sony can have any future lawsuit brought against them from the legal representatives of Mitchell and Redding as they look to sue Experience Hendrix / Sony for outstanding royalties on streaming.
I suppose it makes better headlines. At best, it looks a lot like EH/Sony are suing not to be sued!!
The bones of the matter appear to be if Noel and Mitch's rights to all royalties were signed away in 73/74 stand against streaming royalties. Its clearly how a judge will interpret that / those legal documents. As we see with a high profile case right now, simply signing a legal paper not to sue certain parties may or not preclude certain people from that exemption!
They never never really got a fair deal so it would be great if the estates did get some sort of recourse here but its all a little too late for the gentlemen in question.
