If you missed this on BBC2 last night at 2100, the hour long programme looking at Jimi's death will be repeated on Friday 1st April at 11.35pm. Quite interesting with contributions from Kathy Etchingham, Harry Shapiro etc and some new information from Roger Daltrey and it appears that Jimi and Devon Wilson spent the weekend before his death at Daltrey's Berkshire home.

Knowing who Romesh Ranganathan is (memo to non-UK subscribers, he is a Sri-Lankan/English comedian) I wasn't expecting a serious or revelatory programme. The comedian's "investigation" was supported by a criminal psychologist side-kick. "Criminal" being the operative word for the journalistic seriousness of the programme. I am sure Mr. Ranganathan was not responsible for the script but it certainly got off to a bad start. The first sentence revealed Jimi arrived in England in June 1966 aged 22. It went downhill from there. The non-resemblance of the actor and actress playing Jimi and Monika in a few re-enactment scenes raised a smile. Couldn't they have found anyone else?! The actress was prettier than Monika though, so I suppose that was something. I only watch these programmes for any footage which might be included so on the plus side it was the first time I had seen Miami footage on television. The Roger Daltrey revelations were new (well, new to me anyway) and it was the first time I had heard or even seen Harry Shapiro and his contribution was of interest. For those who missed it and are waiting for the repeat, file under watch but don't expect to find any mysteries of Jimi's last day solved.
