Anyone got the new recordings from Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Rome? Is so, tell us all about them.

hi steve and the rest,

really nice to see that Jimpress has a forum now. I happily joined right away. I am the one who found the new Hamburg tape from the second show. It is currently negotiated about with several options of what to do with it. So it will not see the light of day until all those things have been thoroughly discussed. What I can tell you is that it has 8 tracks, including Driving South. The first half of the tape sounds very muffled, as the taper hid the mic under his jacket, the last 4 songs (including DS) sound pretty good. Jimi is in great spirits for that show, and the tape has a remarkable version of Hear My Train.

The Stuttgart tape has also just been discovered recently. It is a solid , good sounding show, but not as spirited as the Hamburg performance. Still a very solid Jan. 69 show. It includes the Eire Apparent portion. The tape is not complete, the recent source is from a 2nd gen cassette, but the master has still to be located again (it must be somewhere in the taper´s attic, but he could not find it yet). The Stuttgart show is likely to be circulated pretty soon per request of the taper. So stay tuned for this one.
The tracklist for Stuttgart 19.01.69 is:

Come On / Fire / IDLT / Hey Joe / Foxy Lady (cut) Star Spangled Banner / Purple Haze / Voodoo Chile

reportedly played and most probably also on the master tape are Sunshine of your Love and Red House, which is why we are still looking for the master cassette or the first gen reel that this 2nd gen transfer was made from....

this photo was taken by the taper of the Stuttgart show, so you get an idea about the recording location....

The Rome tape, only know that John McDermott discovered it (or got it from someone, depending how you put it)....the italian blog had some info on it, but I forgot the track list. I think it was reported to sound a bit like the show from Civic Opera Chicago February 68....

hope this helps,

olvator

Thanks for sharing this info' with us olvator.
Great that shows keep turning up, due mostly to the hard work, time and effort of colletors like yourself. Again, thanks.
Look forward to hearing this stuff when it comes into circulation.
May that be sooner than later :D

Just read the comments on the above link.
Just a couple of things. How sure are you the master or reel copy no longer exist as you say in an earlier post above about it possibly being in his attic ?
Also could you please pass my thanks on to Harald for taping this show. And again, thank you for bringing it to us Olvator.
Oh almost forgot, is the picture, shown above and on the link, the only one for this date / venue?

Thanks Olvator. What a surprise this was when I woke up this morning. Were there 2 shows that night? The torrent says this is the early show.

@gordon

I am pretty sure that the other two tapes are lost. If anything turns up, I ( and in this case you all) will be the first to know....but I would not have too many hopes. Actually almost a miracle that this tape was still around...

Thanks Olvator - I'm really amazed that new tapes are still being found 40+ years later.

Many thanks for circulating this tape Olvator. I'm wondering about the Fritz Rau intro, I don't know what his voice sounds like so can't tell if the MC on the tape is Rau or not, does he have an easy to recognize voice (for those in the know) or did he always MC his own concerts, how do we know it's him?
