5 out of 10, really?

I'm not being facetious but I'd hit this at zero out of any number you care to measure it against!

Sure it has a few nice points, the few outs that are new [too few], great live set [wrong place], Hirez audio [wrong format], new mastering [ how can I put this? F****d up], do I have to run through the whole set before you get where I'm coming from?

No matter what little bit I actually like it is far too little to make this a set worthy of JIMI HENDRIX, remember him?

To those who did this mess, you either have no clue about producing a release or you just don't have the first idea as to how celebrate JIMI HENDRIX ELECTRIC LADYLAND 50th ANNIVERSARY, no clue at all.

Shame on you.

A duplicate from the wrong thread!!

Just sitting again with the CD box set and still remain hugely unimpressed. The Hirez audio be it LPCM or DTS-HD just isn't doing it for me and I don't understand why that is! maybe when I finally get it to play through the HiFi I'll maybe find myself having a change of mind on this.

The standard CD format is poor for a Grundman master and that is possibly my biggest single disappointment here, from a whole bunch of disappointments.

The live set, I just find this unbelievable to have it bundled into this release. That's a standalone criticism but is then compounded in that it takes up valuable space for much more related material.

I guess I need to read the JP review which I left for a later read. I did see this has an alternate set offered up, so I'm guessing I'm not alone in my thinking even if I doubt anyone else will rate this box as poorly as I do. But £50 for a CD set and £120 for a vinyl set from the US [still waiting to hear this simply as I had to get it from the US due to the unclear pressing details we have from the flat earthers!] I feel entitled to feed back my disappointment to the Hendrix community.

I called this a cash and grab when I first sat with the set, nothing so far has changed my mind on that. Poor Jimi! I just read the 1997 comments from EH about how they were going to do justice to Hendrix's legacy now they had control. Is this their idea of presenting Jimi's legacy in the manner they called it back then while mouthing off about previous personnel in charge of this material?

And we get the "related" EP45 which is clearly touted on the cover sticker as ORIGINAL MONO MIXES. Of course, we all know that to be simply mis-selling. We all know that we never had dedicated mono mixes of either Crosstown Torrents or Gypsy Eyes. Both being no more than mono mastered from the stereo mixes.

Compound that by the fact that playing the whole disc on a dedicated mono playback set up and they all sound very poor. Not for the first time have we got someone in the EU mastering Jimi Hendrix who simply struggles with the task.

Again, is this how EH are happy to have JIMI HENDRIX represented to the listener?

I was being charitable, but on reflection a score near the zero mark now seems appropriate...

It doesn’t deserve a zero, the saving grace that it’s well-presented, nevertheless that doesn’t rescue it from being dire.

From the reviews I’ve read the “special USA vynyl” sonics are fabulous, but the carbuncle of the Hollywood show is evidence enough this release is about commercialism, not legacy.
